Every February, Montepulciano becomes the stage for the Anteprima del Vino Nobile, the official launch of a new vintage of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano—the first Italian wine to be awarded the prestigious DOCG status. The event draws producers, journalists, sommeliers, and wine enthusiasts from around the world.
Held in the historic Fortezza di Montepulciano, the Anteprima offers tastings of the latest vintage directly from the winemakers. Every year about 50 winemakers present their latest Vinoi Nobile, Rosso or Vin Santo, so there is plenty to taste. For visitors, it is a rare opportunity to meet winemakers, discuss their wine making approach, sample plethora of labels in one place, and experience the heartbeat of Tuscan winemaking.
Beyond tastings, the Anteprima is a celebration of Montepulciano itself: its noble wine tradition, its winemakers, and the deep bond between the town and its surrounding vineyards.
